'Valorant' Altering Its Ranking System Prior To Its Official Release

Valorant’s beta release ended on Thursday and will release worldwide on June 2. Players who have taken part in the game’s beta release have gotten familiar with the game and have amassed high ranking status in the game. The highest rank a player can achieve is confusingly, “Valorant.” Once the game releases worldwide, players ranked in the Valorant tier will have a new classification.

The game’s developers, Riot, have announced that once Valorant releases worldwide, the highest classification a player can have in the rankings will be different, what that title will be is unknown but it will accompany the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Immortal tiers as ways players can be ranked in the game.

In explaining the change, Valorant’s senior designer Sean Szopinski noted that they understand the initial confusion. “When we were brainstorming these names, Valorant seemed like a really awesome choice for the top rank. What could be cooler than climbing the ranks, aspiring to become an elite and heroic Valorant, the personification of the game itself! You guys are right though, it’s a bit confusing. We get it. I get it. We’ll change it for launch.”

Riot is also the developer for League of Legends, whose top tier is ‘Challenger,’ which is a possible replacement as the top tier in the Valorant

Although the game releases on June 2, the ranked mode will not be initially available as it will come out a few weeks later.
