BlizzCon 2020 Canceled Due To COVID-19

BlizzCon, one of the biggest video game conventions in the world, announced in a blog post on Tuesday that the 2020 edition of the event will be canceled.

Executive producer of BlizzCon Saralyn Smith explained the decision. “We’ve had many discussions about what holding a convention could look like in light of all the health and safety considerations we’d want to make,” Smith said. “We’ve also talked about different paths we could take, and how each one could be complicated by fluctuations in national and local health guidelines in the months ahead. Ultimately, after considering our options, we’ve come to the very difficult decision to not have BlizzCon this year.”

In the post, it was Noted that Blizzard, the host company, is thinking of ways to have some sort of virtual convention in early 2021.

Blizzcon 2018 had around 40,000 people in attendance, and although some states are beginning to open back up from the coronavirus pandemic, to have that many people in one place would pose an immense challenge to maintain proper health and safety precautions in these times.
