Animal Crossings: New Horizons hit the virtual shelves on March 20, and the world is hyped up to start a new civilization on their new island. After clocking in some hours into the game, as well as browsing around online websites – mostly Reddit – it is my duty as a journalist to inform the world about the best tips and tricks to assembling a five-star island in no time.

Tip #1:     Take Quality Time to Set Up Your Island!

You only get one opportunity to select the specific island that you want, so you really have to spend quality time scouting the area. The key is finding an area with a river or lake, so that players can easily go fishing or just admire the beautiful scenery. Be sure to include the word ‘Island’ into your island’s name, because the game won’t do that by default.

Tip #2:     Talk to Tom Nook!

Tom Nook is not only the most generous loan-giver in the history of gaming, if not the world, he is the most important one  to speak with when lost on what to do next. His guidance will guarantee that players are always making the best choices to improve the player’s island.

Tip #3:     Talk to Everyone!

The island is a tightly-knit community, and you should be actively participating in it too. You really should take the time to talk to the other villagers and residents, even if it is just to say hello. You’ll learn that most everyone is friendly, and you can even receive gifts from folks around town. Once you’ve proven yourself to be a loyal friend and asset to the community, that is.

Tip #4:      Set Up Your Very Own Profitable Economy!

Put yourself into a ‘Monopoly mindset’ for this tip. Whenever your player receives a fruit that is foreign to the island, make sure the fruit is planted into a tree. This way, you can sell all of the fruit that the tree will grow. Also, don’t forget to dig a hole before planting the fruit! For some reason, it is not as simple as plopping a seed into the ground, which can be done for various other plants.

Make sure you try and catch all the animals you come across. Some villagers will eventually visit your island, and they will pay top dollar for creatures like bugs and fish. Be advised that bees and tarantulas are also catchable in the game. Players will have to be quick about it though, since these animals have the potential to attack your villager.

Tip #5:       Money Really Does Grow On Trees!

Oh yeah, baby! If a player finds a bag of bells in a glowing spot on the map, they should immediately plant the bag in order to grow more money. The more money placed into the bag, bigger – and more lucrative – profits will be made.

Tip #6:       Check the Island Bulletin Board!

This will keep the player up to date about important birthdays of your fellow villagers. If you spot a little, yellow bird above of the bulletin board, then you’ll know that there is a new message that can be checked at any time.

The real fun of the game is discovering how it works. Best of luck, and have a great time assembling the fantasy island of dreams.
