For years, the Serious Sam series has remained an independent IP released on the PC and made only a few console adventures. However, after years of working alongside Devolver Digital, Croteam, the studio behind the Serious Sam series and The Talos Principle, has now been acquired by the publisher. As announced on the company’s official website, Devolver Digital has decided to tie the knot and now owns the IP rights to the Serious Sam franchise. “Croteam and Devolver Digital have been dating for so long that we decided to go ahead and just get married,” reads the official statement from DD.

“What’s certain is that our future together is ultra exciting with new projects like The Talos Principle 2, more Serious Sam games, and original IPs from Croteam and the Croteam Incubator studios. Croteam will of course keep total creative freedom and Devolver Digital gets to keep making dumb recommendations that Croteam just ignores – we prefer it that way.

Both companies are thrilled to share this news and hope that you’re as excited about our future together as we are – it’s going to be a lot of fun…”

The most recent Serious Sam game released, Serious Sam 4, was released on September 24, 2020, on PC and Google Stadia.
