Project 007

His name is Bond, James Bond. The world’s most famous super spy is returning to the world of gaming with a brand new video game. Project 007 (working title) will be a new era in James Bond games – Hitman developer IO Interactive is working on a new game based on the iconic character.

The company recently released a teaser trailer of the upcoming title that will be an all-new origin story for James Bond. While the teaser didn’t reveal much outside of the game’s existence, IO Interactive released more details on the company’s website. IO promises that “players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite secret agent to ear their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.”

There have been many games based on the 007 license, with the most famous of these being the N64 classic, Goldeneye, based on the movie of the same name, which was hailed as the best FPS game on Nintendo’s system. Unlike prior games in the series, this will not be based on any of the films. The last game based on the James Bond series was the critically and commercially panned 007 Legends, which saw publisher Activision lose the license for the 007 series during the game’s development. The next installment in the James Bond franchise, No Time To Die, will be released on April 2, 2021

IO Interactive’s current project, Hitman 3, will launch on all major platforms on January 21, 2021.
