Halo fans rejoiced at the release of Halo The Master Chief Collection, giving Xbox players easy access to Halo 1-4 as well as side story Halo 3: ODST. The MC Collection also marked the first time PC gamers were able to play the full Halo series. The MC Collection has also been receiving constant updates and tweaks for online play. In the newest update scheduled for February 18, a believed-to-be-lost map from the cancelled game Halo Online, will be making its way to Halo 3 matchmaking.

Halo Online was a short-lived and ill-fated free-to-play game made exclusively for the Russian audience. Running a modified version of Halo 3‘s engine, Microsoft partnered with Russian companies Saber Interactive and Innova Systems to make a Halo game specifically for lower-end PCs in Russia. The game was shelved soon after beta-testing. Microsoft has shut down any attempts to bring the game worldwide through mods or otherwise. Until today’s announcement, Halo Online has barely been acknowledged by MC Collection developers 343 Industries or Microsoft.

Alongside Valentine’s Day and Black History Month goodies, 343 announced in a developer blog post that “a new map for Halo 3 from Halo Online” will be making its way into the game on February 18.

Considering the secretive nature of Halo Online, fans can barely speculate what the revived map may be, or look like since any smuggled-out pictures of Halo Online don’t tell much of a narrative about the dead game.

343, however, included a nondescript picture above their announcement of the upcoming map.
