Microsoft’s behemoth multimedia frenzy Minecraft made an appearance at their E3 presentation. Developer Mojang has been quite busy maintaining and improving their beloved property.

The most interesting enhancement to the Minecraft experience is the addition of cross-platform play. From mobile platforms to your dedicated gaming console, you’ll be able to share your adventures with your friends without being burdened with borders. Specifically, these iterations of the iconic sandbox title will support this feature:

  • Windows 10
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Xbox One
  • Nintendo Switch
  • VR

This update will come as a free patch to mobile and VR platforms this summer, whereas those who own the Xbox One Edition or Nintendo Switch Edition of Minecraft will receive a free download for its newest version. In that scenario, your purchased DLC and the worlds you built will migrate over. Plus, any DLC you purchase on one platform will be redeemable on the others!

OTHER UPCOMING ENHANCMENTS

Dedicated servers will come too, and Mojang will personally host four: Lifeboat, Mineplex, InPVP, and Cubecraft. They’ll add more in the future. Plus, all of the above platforms will obtain this luxury!

Furthermore, the Xbox One, Windows 10, mobile and VR versions will receive optional 4K visuals with the “Super Duper Graphics Pack.” This will launch in the fall. Alternatively, you can keep the original veneer should you choose.
